As part of efforts to diversity the economy, the Nigerian government says it is putting modalities in place to increase the exportation of Honey.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Audu Ogbehz stated this at the official Flag-off Ceremony of the ApiExpo Africa 2018 in Abuja the nation’s capital.
The event which was organized by ApiTRADE Africa in collaboration with Nigeria’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, aims to increase the country’s export through the development of the Apiculture sector.
Mr. Ogbeh was optimistic that with the support from government to Bee farmers, Nigeria would be in the world map of Honey production and export in the next three years.
According to him, efforts would be made to ensure that beekeeping equipment were produced in the country.
“We are doing quite a bit, some of the construction of the bee boxes which we are now importing from Turkey can be done here, we have the wood but we don’t do much because we don’t treat our wood”
“So I have been telling them that we have to link up with Afebabalola University they have a wood processing industry there and they treat wood…. We can purchase special wood and give it as support to the people making the boxes,” the Minister explained.
