Sao Tome and Principe ambassador laid to rest

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sao Tome and Principe, Mrs Queen Imaria Worlu, has been laid to rest in Abuja, after a funeral service on Friday.

The late ambassador died on July 9, after a brief illness. She was 58 years old.

Mrs Queen Worlu was born on April 4, 1960 to the family of Chief Christopher Osifo and Ijose Ogiamen, in Benin, Edo state and was the third child.

She attended St Maria Goretti College, Benin City, Edo state, where she obtained a West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1975.

In 1977, she proceeded to her A-levels at Idi College, Benin City, after which, she gained admission into the University of Lagos in the same year to study Philosophy.

She graduated with a BA Honours degree in 1981 and served under the NYSC scheme in Jos, Plateau state, finishing in 1982.

Mrs Worlu went on to gain an MBA in Human Resources from the Shobit Universit in India; a Post Graduate Diploma in Theology and a Certificate in Protocol Service Duties in Rome, Italy.

She joined the Foreign Service in 1987, serving in Lisbon, Portugal from 1998 to 2003.

The late ambassador served in various capacities, including Minister/Head of Trade and Investment at the Nigerian High Commission, New Delhi, where she later became the acting High Commissioner between 2015 and 2016.

She was later appointed the Nigerian Ambassador to Sao Tome and Principe in 2017, where she served, till her passing on July 9, 2018.

She is survived by her husband, Mr Sampson Worlu, former Director General of Voice of Nigeria, and three boys, Jesse, Chizi and Chituga.
