
A statement by his daughter, Mrs. Zariatu Abubakar, said her father died in the afternoon on Friday.
Hashidu, born on April 10, 1944, was a Nigerian politician, who became the governor of Gombe State from May 1999 to May 2003, on the platform of the All People’s Party.
Before becoming the Governor of Gombe State, Hashidu served as the Minister of Water Resources and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, when General Ibrahim Babangida was the Military Head of State of Nigeria.
Under the then Military Head of State also, General Sani Abacha, Hashidu was among the members of the Vision 2010 Committee, set up to chart a developmental road-map for Nigeria.
In January 2003, Hashidu contested for re-election under the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, but could not gain the majority vote to be re-elected as the governor of Gombe State.
Hashidu supported many media organizations, including Voice of Nigeria, during his tenure and the media community in Gombe State says he will be greatly missed.
